The Gift, portraying Buffy Summer's sacrifice, portrayed by Sarah Michelle Gellar. The prophesied conclusion to the ominous words of the first slayer, "Death is Your Gift."
A Great gift for Buffy fans, especially those that want to remember to give their passion their all, just like everyone's favorite sharp-witted Heroine.
The Hardest Thing in this world, is to live in it.

Now the story of it's creation.
It was one of the first days after I got back after selling at Snake River Fandom Con; And to be honest, I was exhausted. So I was doing what I normally do on my exhausted days, and rewatching Buffy for the Nth time. I happened to be on Season 5, from my annual rewatch to get into the mood for Halloween. (Yeah, I watch Buffy a lot, possibly too much.)
It was also October, which most of you probably know, is the month where artists all over the world trade in their digital tools and get messy with ink.
Now, as a traditional artist who works primarily in ink and watercolor, 30 days of using ink isn't really a challenge for me, because I use it everyday pretty much already.
So, I thought that I'd extend the challege to using inkwash for inktober. This was my first successful piece using inkwash, because I had to draw the heartbreaking moment of The Gift after watching it.
Now what's so difficult about using inkwash? First, the lack of portability, ink stains everything except for glass, so it only makes sense to work with it on glass. Second, it flows very differently from watercolor... I'm not sure if it moves with any sort of predictability because it certainly hasn't in my case. Third, it dries like super fast. I live in a desert, I'm lucky if I can fill an area of 2 inches squared with water before a portion of it dries. The India Ink dries almost as soon as it hits paper, at least where I live. Fourth, it blooms, it's pretty much impossible to get a flat wash of color.
But most of all, inkwash can do some seriously beautiful things. If you understand how to use the blooms, it is breath-taking.
I thought that if I could use the ink blooms to my advantage, that I could recreate the cool effect of the portal. I'm pretty happy with how it worked out.
